FAQ – How it works
- What does this site do?
It ranks Guild Wars 2 crafting recipes by how much gold you make if you craft the item and sell it on the Trading Post, using live market prices. Pick a technique, scan the list, open an item for the full breakdown.
- Is this the old gw2craftgold.com?
No. The original gw2craftgold.com went offline in 2024. GW2CraftProfit is an independent rebuild inspired by it – built from scratch with new code, and not affiliated with its former operators.
- Why is the site in beta?
GW2CraftProfit is brand new and still being refined. Data coverage, calculations and features may change, and occasional rough edges or short downtime are expected.
- What are the four techniques?
They are the four combinations of two choices.
Buying ingredients either directly (pay the lowest sell listing now) or with a buy order (match the highest bid and wait). Selling the crafted item either directly (sell to the highest buy order now) or with a sell offer (list at the lowest sell price and wait).
Easy Money = buy & sell directly – safe and instant.
Maximum Profit = buy order & sell offer – best margin, but slower.
Buy Bid = place a buy order for the ingredients, then sell the crafted item instantly to the highest buy order.
Sell Offer = buy the ingredients instantly at the lowest listing, then list the crafted item with a sell offer.
- How am I buying or selling – directly or with an offer?
“Directly” means you take the current best price immediately.
“With an offer/order” means you place an order at the current best bid/ask and wait for someone to fill it – better price, but it can take time and might not complete.
- Does the profit include Trading Post fees?
Yes. Every sale loses a 5% listing fee plus a 10% transaction fee (15% total). All profit figures already subtract these.
- What is the “optimal quantity”?
The Trading Post has limited orders at each price. As you sell more, you fill cheaper buy orders and the price you get drops; as you buy more ingredients, the price you pay rises. The optimal quantity is the number of crafts that maximizes total profit before the market moves against you.
- How fresh are the prices?
Prices come from the official Guild Wars 2 API and are refreshed about every 2 minutes. The “Prices updated” timestamp on each page shows the last refresh.
- Are only the EU Trading Post prices tracked?
No. Guild Wars 2 has a single, global Trading Post shared by every account – NA and EU players buy and sell on the same market. Only the worlds (for WvW and latency) are regional, not the economy. So the prices shown here apply to everyone, wherever you play.
- Why are some cooking recipes missing?
Vendor ingredients bought for coin or karma are now priced, so most cooking recipes do show up. A recipe is still left out when an ingredient can’t be priced – an account-bound material or drop with no Trading Post price, or a guild/currency input – or when the item barely has a market.
- Is it 100% accurate? Should I just craft blindly?
No – treat it as guidance. The best opportunities disappear fast, and you still need the right discipline, level and recipe unlocked. Always re-check the live prices before committing, especially when placing buy or sell orders.
- A recipe looked profitable but now shows a loss – why?
Trading Post prices move constantly. The lists use a snapshot refreshed every few minutes, while an item page recomputes from current order depth – so figures can differ, and a thin or fast-moving market can flip from profit to loss. Re-check the live prices before crafting or placing orders.
- How can I support the site?
Running costs will be covered by ads and donations in the future. Whitelisting the site in your ad blocker, or chipping in on Ko-fi, keeps it online – thank you!
- Is it free?
Yes, and it stays free.
- Is this an official ArenaNet site?
No. This is an unofficial fan site and is not affiliated with ArenaNet or NCsoft.
